50 bucks and a case of beer [12 Jun 2007|09:40am]

So, I've never actually met a band.  But I would like to.  How do you guys met bands? Any secrets willing to share.

My one friend suggested I bake them cookies.  Oddly enough, it's worked for him.

I just joined this group because I love penny lane, and I love hanging out with bands and inspiring good music. If anyone has any band-aid stories of their own I'd LOVE to hear them..and maybe meet someone to be a band-aid with me haha.

question? [14 Jan 2007|06:32pm]

Are we allowed to post stories about our own (or friends) experiences as "band aids"? I have a few friends whose stories I'd love to share here..

bandaid books (intro post) [13 Jan 2007|11:55pm]

Does anyone know if Sable Starr ever wrote a book about her life? I've been reading about her in Please Kill Me and I'm quite obsessed now.

What is your favourite old-school band aid book? I bought I'm with the Band by Pamela Des Barres the other day. I can't wait to read it.

oh I just joined by the way. I'm a massive AF fan (obviously). This community seems rad.

survey [27 Sep 2006|11:51am]

Thanks to everyone who helped me fill out my rockstar surveys. I still need some people, though, since I'm aiming toward 50 and even though around 45 people agreed to do it, I only got about half of those back so far. So, if you've ever been involved with a musician and wanna help me out, send me an email (shamrockenroll@yahoo.com) or leave a reply here with your email address. Thanks!!

A little bit of help please! [07 Sep 2006|02:01pm]

So, my senior seminar class is basically one big paper where we pick a topic of our choice, do research and run a study.

Since I’m big into music and Irish/Celtic fests and I’ve messed around with an older musician or two (still am actually!), I’ve decided to do mine on groupies (oh, that’s a bad word, I don’t mean it in a slutty way…how about “band aids”) and see if there is a correlation between what they do and their life at home. I lost my dad at a young age and once my mom remarried, I didn’t get to see his side of the family, and it was a big family. I love the Celtic fests because I know so many people there and it’s like one big family to me. So, it’s like I’m trying to get the feeling of a family elsewhere, ya know? I know two other people who have slept with musicians. One is my age and she comes from a family with a lot of kids and the father was never around. My other friend lives with just her mom and I’m almost positive she was abused as a child. I’m not trying to be stereotypical and I hope I don’t offend anyone, but it just seems like of the people I know or ones I’ve talked to in the past, we all have similar backgrounds.

What I want to know is, can anyone give me an idea on what to search for. We need 50 sources and they have to be journal articles. I’ve searched my school library’s online journal archives and I can’t come up with much…maybe I’m searching wrong. I’ve tried keywords like: parents, fatherless,  broken family, musicians, attention, acting-out…I don’t know why I can’t come up with stuff. I’m looking in music journals, psychology, sociology…barely anything. If anyone has read anything along these lines, knows an article they can point me at, or maybe your school has a better search engine? Even if you can give me keyword ideas to search for, it would be very much appreciated right now.

Most importantly- if anyone has read or knows where I can find a journal article on groupies please let me know. I’m sure I’ll be able to come up with a lot of the psychology/family information for the history part of the paper, but not much for the history part on groupies.

Also, if you have had an encounter with a musician or know of some message board where people discuss this type of stuff, please let me know. I’ve come up with a survey that I need a lot of people to fill out as part of my “research” portion. If you’d be willing to fill one out, that would rock, too. You wouldn’t have to use your name, because I just need to collect data. I’m not gonna single anyone out.

Thanks so much in advance for any ideas or volunteers here! And again, I’m sorry if this may have offended someone.

I'm new. Well, in this com. I'm here both as a almost famous fan and as a band aid.
I've been following around a band called Melody club (http://www.melodyclub.com)
since 2003. But things have changed within the band, it's not like it used to, but
I haven't seen them in a while so I'll see what happens.

Getting backstage with a DJ and hanging out with and talking to Robert Plant while his friend raves about our groupie outfits and how they were all trying to find us in the theater is one of the most thrilling experiences in the world.

Pic coming soon, hopefully.

To busy to be a groupie! ha ha [20 Mar 2006|01:58pm]

My brain is fucking FRIED.

I just worked a week and a half straight at one of the local clubs and I worked with about a million bands. It's been a great time. The guys were great, the music wasn't too shabby and I got paid well!

I love my life!

Bands I worked with... anyone care to share any stories?
(We need to liven this place up a bit!)

30 Seconds to Mars
The Black Dhalia Murder
The Red Chord
The Agony Scene
The Starting Line
Gatsbys American Dream
Tokyo Rose
The Still Life Projector
Scary Kids Scaring Kids
Portugal the Man
Classic Crime
Matchbook Romance
Silverstein (MY FAVORITE GUYS EVER... they were so fucking good)
Man Alive
The Early November
Amber Pacific
Minus the Bear
Russian Circles
The Velvet Teen

TALK ABOUT BUSY! :) But the job is worth it and it's amazing to meet so many different kinds of band members from all different walks of life and music.
